Southern Miss Plans Eight New Suites and Left Field Landing at Pete Taylor Park
A proposed renovation would expand premium seating and hospitality at Pete Taylor Park as Southern Miss begins fundraising for the project.
Southern Miss Athletics has unveiled a proposed renovation of Pete Taylor Park at Hill Denson Field and launched a fundraising campaign for the project. The plan would add eight suites, update the ballpark’s existing suites and create the Left Field Landing, a new hospitality area along the outfield.
The university announced the vision on October 27 under its Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow campaign. Mississippi Today reported a fundraising target of about $25 million from private and corporate support. Hattiesburg American reported that the plan calls for eight new suites and could increase overall capacity from approximately 4,300 to 6,500 fans. Those figures are project targets; a construction timetable has not been announced.
The proposed Left Field Landing would add hospitality space, concessions and restrooms. Behind home plate, the university plans to rework seating and circulation while retaining the same number of seats in that area. Its project overview also shows a first-base terrace, an expanded right-field social area and improvements to the Roost, including covered parking and power.
The broader proposal includes new concessions, restrooms and retail along the first-base side, along with expanded hitting facilities and baseball operations space. Existing suites would be renovated alongside the new inventory.
“The vision is not to change what makes The Pete special. It is to build around it.” — Jeremy McClain, Director of Athletics, Southern Miss
Southern Miss says the project remains in its fundraising phase. The university’s official project site presents renderings and a breakdown of the proposed improvements.
